Don’t call Yvette Meadows a “girl singer or musician.” Call her the "Detroit Black Music Award winner, "Entertainer of the Year 2013”a talented songstress, pianist, writer and producer who transforms mere notes into scintillating journeys of the soul. At its simplest, Ms. Meadows’ music is a lesson in melodic artistry. At its most powerful, it’s a spiritual gift that transcends all boundaries.
In 2011 her thoughts about love, loss and spiritual rebirth soon turned into a journey of creating the songs for her newly-released 2012 CD titled “SIMPLY ME” on the independent Beatmob Productions label, which is now ranked in the top 10 on the Soul Charts in the United Kingdom and Number 1 on the Jazz/R&B music charts on "Number 2 Music". The disc offers a tuneful collection of soul, R&B, jazz-tinged ballads and up-tempo tracks.
Born into a large musical family of seven in Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Meadows started playing piano at age 5 and gave her first performance at age 6 singing lead for her family’s group the Meadowlarks. By the time she was 13, she had come to love all kinds of music, from jazz and R&B, to big band and Broadway. As she matured, her talents extended beyond singing to songwriting, teaching, producing and serving as a musical consultant for theater productions, such as “The Tribute to Michael Jackson” held at the Music Hall Theatre in Detroit. Ms. Meadows’ claim to popularity has been her ability to run the gamut of music from Broadway hits to Jazz. She has shared the stage with such named artists as Norman Brown, Joe Sample, Art Porter, Jean Carne, Tom Browne Howard Hewitt and The Mary Jane Girls to name a few.
“Face to Face,” for instance, the first single release from the CD, is a catchy lament about the problems and frustrations of a long-distance relationship. “I thought it important to look at the ups and downs of current technology, and how it applies to our lives, specifically love relationships. My point is that technology is great for lots of things, but when it comes to love, you lose a certain “personal touch” when you aren’t with that person face to face.”
Ms. Meadows wrote and arranged all the songs on SIMPLY ME CD, the one exception being a jazzy cover version of Todd Rundgren's "Hello It’s Me. “Music has always been my sustenance,” says the elegant Ms. Meadows. “In writing this CD it gave me the freedom to express who I really am. It’s been an honor to hear the comparisons to top artists such as Maysa, Phyllis Hymen and Anita Baker, since those were some of the artists that I’ve covered in my career. However, it was time for me to just be me, thus the title of the CD “Simply Me”.
She formed her own 7-piece band of talented musicians and singers called “The Family” comprised of bassist Al Gordon, drummer Dionna Marie Beavers, guitarist Theodis (Ted) Callen, keyboardist Carmen Parks and backup singers Nicole Danielle, Fayvian Watts and Jael Coston. Since then Meadows has continued to move forward, getting enthusiastic praise from longtime fans that have always followed her career as well as a growing contingent of new fans enchanted by her sexy, fresh sound.
Of what she hopes for her career now that the CD is out, she says “My favorite saying at the end of my performances is “I wish you love”. My hope is that when people listen to my music, it will give them a sense of hope and understanding that love is real and it exists even when we see so much negative around us. I hope my listeners can feel my sincerity and truth in who I am and the messages that I bring. I want people to understand that yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not promised and that we should ALL live for today and make it the best that we can. And, who knows what I’ll do next…maybe I’ll be a comedienne!

"Detroit Home Girl Makes It Big in the UK"
"Detroit's homegrown artist Yvette Meadows is climbing the charts in the UK with her self-titled album "Yvette Meadows Simply Me". "Simply Me" has broken the Top 20 charts and resting at #12. However, four of the songs on the recording are breaking the UK scene and the main single "Face to Face" is the rising song, getting more listening time. The following is her bio. Enjoy!"
