The Sax Maniacs are a five-piece band out of the Detroit area, performing a mix of Soulful cover tunes and special original material off their latest CD. Their style is a cross between super cool swingin’ sax tunes from the 50’s & 60’s like Peter Gun, Honky Tonk and Night Train to classic rock and Motown hits like Ain’t To Proud To Beg, Shotgun and I Feel Good by James Brown. The band incorporates 4-part harmonies ,cool brass, lots of burnin’ guitar with one of the hottest rhythm sections in the Motor City. The Sax Maniacs have shared the stage with the likes of Blues legend A.C. Reed, Mitch Ryder and Grandy Ballroom hero, Dick Wagner & TheFrost. The band’s up-tempo, sax driven Soul, quoted in the press as , the new sound of today’s Motown, has excited Motor City fans at festivals and concerts since 2001.
With the release of their new CD, The Sax Maniacs are looking to reach a much wider audience via national air play and a highly paced performance schedule. An average draw for the band depends allot on the size of the venue. This band can draw a crowd of 200 plus people for a regular bar night, 500 people for the weekend and anywhere up to 2500 plus at outdoor festivals.
Since its inception, The Sax Maniacs have enjoyed such notable local performances as the Jambalaya Festival, The Arts, Beats and Eats festivals in Pontiac, The Winter Blast Festival in downtown Detroit, The International Blues Festival in Ferndale, The Freedom Festival in Canton, The Ann Arbor Art Fair, The Spark in the Park Festival in Highland, Michigan along with The Greektown Casino, Detroit’s Hard Rock Café, Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak, The Motor City Music Conference Blues Showcase in Detroit, The Emerald Theater: Finals for The Motor City Blues Challenge, The Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak and currently is continuing to compose and present more original songs as they tour throughout the state of
Michigan.
