The Hoopties is an American Roots music group based out of Lansing, MI. When folks ask “what kind of music do you play?”, the answer is simple: we play a lot of music that is always rooted in Blues in one way or another, spanning the gaps wherever we can without trying to be just another cover band playing tired “bar tunes”. We play a lot of original material and pay homage to our favorite musical heroes with a few choice covers as well. With a group of six musicians, there is no shortage of influences from a wide array of genres, which we enjoy exploiting as often as possible.
The Hoopties features Lansing, MI musicians guitarist Aaron Holland, James “Mocha” Waller on saxophone and harmonica, Andy Callis on piano and organ, Eric Payne on drums and Jason Strotheide on bass and vocals.
The Hoopties released their first CD “It Ain’t Never Been Easy” in September of 2011 which features all original music that clearly envokes the voice and styles of many artists from years past, but somehow still remains unique and without a doubt, this band delivers a sophisticated tapestry of music that will surely make a lasting impression. “It Ain’t Never Been Easy” is available at CDBaby, Amazon, ITunes…..and just about everywhere else online and of course at our shows.
With performances at East Lansing Art Festival, Old Town Blues Festival, Hard Rock Café – Memphis, KVBA Sunday Blues Series, Art Prize Grand Rapids and many more throughout the area, The Hoopties are ready to stretch out a bit and take to the road. Hopefully we’ll be in your town soon!
