The Story of
Funk, Soul & Detroit Rock 'N' Roll. Powerhouse, soulful vocals, with a funky rhythm section, slick guitar licks, and soaring horns. High energy, non stop fun!
With influences ranging from Motown, Led Zeppelin and Etta James, Shotgun Soul has that old school sound, with a twist. Led by powerhouse vocalist Liz Girard bringing the soul, the terrific tandem of Jason Mossburger and Jesse Wozniak on guitars, a funky rhythm section of Robby Berent on bass, and Dave Bodanyi on drums and featuring Mr. Bill Kunz on the trombone rounding out the lineup, giving the bands old school sound; a swampy edge.
Known for their live sound and performances, one cannot deny the infectious energy, passion and true musicianship that Shotgun Soul brings to every performance. Having played all over Southeast Michigan, Ohio, Chicago, and in April 2012 to their largest audience of over 5,000 people at The Monroe Street Fair in Ann Arbor, Mi, Shotgun Soul has caught the attention of local media/journalists, radio and fans alike, making them sure to be one to watch.

"Back in the day", before the lion's share of music became mindless cookie-cutter digitized pop, bands created and captured sounds whose heart 'n soul could practically be tasted. Happily, a few examples of "diggin' down deep" tunes still exist today. Witness Shotgun Soul.
Rich, textured vocals, strong arrangements and highly adept musicianship make this self-titled debut a dynamic sampling of a band just on the brink of a breakthough. Not having yet seen them on stage, the four tracks hereon hint at tons of potential in a live setting.
Is it mere coincidence that this quartet hail from in and around Detroit, that quintessential hot-bed of ROCK? Well, who can say?
Bottom line, these four push 'til it gives, Baby. And that's all that really matters, doesn't it?

Shotgun Soul mixes it up with influences that include Motowns early years, the wailing pipes of Led Zeppelins Robert Plant and the ska/punk vibe of Sublime"

“Although not from Ann Arbor, this year’s acts promise to keep the joint jumping after the morning’s pro-pot speechmaking is over. Shotgun Soul blends rock, funk, soul, Motown, pop, reggae, hip-hop, blues and jazz. According to a post on its Web site, “Shotgun Soul is always looking to mix the old with the new, taking it to the next level.” ”

High-energy Detroit-soul rockers Shotgun Soul were winners of the festival's Facebook contest. "When we signed up for the contest, we didn't even expect to make it to the finals," says Shotgun Soul vocalist Liz Gerard. "So to win is a dream come true, and we are very grateful to the Monroe Street Fair for this wonderful opportunity."

But for the eclectic metro Detroit band Shotgun Soul, halting their trigger is not an option. Led by their fiery singer Lizzy Boomsticks, Shotgun Soul has played at more than 25 different venues throughout Michigan and will rock their smoked-out fans at the Tap Detroit 420 Experience show at PJ’s Lager House this Saturday. So if you plan to get down on Saturday, leave your politics at home and look forward to a night with the big guns.

This band’s kinda all over the radio dial: There’s “soul,” yes, but also some pop-rock flair, and even a bit of reggae. Wavy grooves, head-banging beats and whipping hooks, garnished with just a hint of feedback and heavy pours of attitude.

Nothing could be stolen away from the final act of the night, Shotgun Soul, a band that finished the evening with a hard, bellowing kind of rock and soul. Tiny Liz Gerard leads the group with her powerful crooning, joined by Jason Mossburger on guitar, Robby Berent on horns, Dave Bodayni on bass, and Jesse Wozniak on drums. There is a clear influence brewing the best of classic rock, 90's rock and classic Motown, and they put on a powerful show. Liz had the crowd up-front early-on and they kept it that way.
