Biography

I was born into a musical family. My father was an Episcopal priest who wrote the first folk mass in the United States (another one was written prior to that in England). He and my mother formed a singing folk duo and appeared at the Newport Folk Festival, on the Dave Garroway Show and on the Tonight Show. I later joined their act playing drums and finally guitar along with my 3 sisters who sang and my sister Julie, played drums. We toured all over the US, the Bahamas and Europe and performed with Joan Baez, Steve Goodman, Pete Seeger and others. The band was called Father Ian, Caroline and friends. The friends included legendary Nashville musicians, Steve Mendell on bass, Steve Hostak on guitar, Denny Bayless on drums and Andy McMahon on keys. They recorded and album in Nashville with Tracy Nelson of Mother Earth fame called Morning Glory. The Sisters (Mary, Julie and Zanna) and I struck out on our own and formed the Fabulous Starlettes in Indianapolis and went on to great local acclaim in the Midwest region playing gigs from Chicago to Louisville to Cincinatti and of course Indianapolis. We recorded a 5 song EP and the music was all tunes I had written. One song was entered in a city-wide competition that included hundreds of submissions from artists from all over the city and the judges for the competition included columnists from the Indianapolis Star newspaper, the music industry and local talent. My song, "Tears of Joy" was selected second out of all of the hundreds of submissions. The Starlettes, at one point, included Dane Clark on drums and Jon E. Gee on bass of John Mellencamp fame. I went on to form my own band, Factor X, that included my sister, Mary on lead vocal, local legend Mark Cutsinger (of Zero Boys fame) on drums and John Peyton on bass. After that, I played bass in the Gene Deer blues band opening for Kenny Wayne Shepard and others. Then I relocated to the Upper Valley in Lyme New Hampshire and have been teaching guitar and writing songs since leaving Indy.
