New CD Looking In the Mirror will be released Oct 21, 2014 by Detroit award winning guitarist Howard Glazer (Lazty Brothers Records distributed by City Hall Records). This is a follow up to his critically acclaimed 2013 Stepchild of the Blues CD. In Sept 2013 Glazer was inducted into the Michigan Blues Hall of Fame and in April 2014 he was chosen Outstanding Blues/R&B Instrumentalist by the Detroit Music Awards. While gigging regularly, (he recently has toured Finland including two Festival dates), he has been busy in the studio working on Looking In The Mirror. As the CD/song title Looking in the Mirror indicates, the musical realm of this CD is truly a reflection of Glazer’s musical linage, spanning the many styles of blues, blues rock and contemporary music that has influenced Glazer’s approach.
Looking in the Mirror features Glazer’s signature tones on electric, slide and resonator guitar. Glazer’s song writing skills are featured as well, there are several originals that will satisfy the blues purists, along with some songs that depart from the standard blues/blues rock format. Constant throughout is Glazer’s fiery fret work.
The core band is Charles David Stuart – drums, Chris Brown – bass, Maggie McCabe & Stephanie Johnson vocals, special guests include the return of Larry Marek on organ, David Kocbus, trumpet, on Walking In Detroit and Tom Schmaltz, flute, on Emergency.
Midnight Postman – When the postman comes at midnight he’s probably not bringing the mail! A funky blues groove that delivers, day or night.
Broken Down Hotel Blues – written about a bad hotel experience while on tour in Sweden, this is a unique blend of blues & rock. This features the rhythm section as well as the girls and a smoking tremolo guitar solo.
Take Me Baby –A driving blues rocker! Howard & Maggie sing in unison with passion fitting of the title, dynamic organ and guitar solos.
All I Ever Wanted – A very unique laid back shoegazer groove, featuring the girls, hypnotic bass and mournful guitars.
Walking In Detroit – A straight ahead shuffle with a twist. Howard & Maggie alternate vocals and a trumpet solo that reflects on Detroit’s jazz heritage.
Eviction Blues – The name says it all! A slow powerful blues. All out guitar and heavy organ… reminiscent of early Led Zeppelin.- or maybe English Blues-Rock from the early 70’s ??
Feeling So Bad – Metal Body Resonator guitar & kick drum highlights Glazer’s adept slide technique – a musical tribute to the late great Johnny Winter.
Looking In The Mirror – Rhythmic blues rock featuring electric slide guitar in the style of the early 70's English Blues Rockers but wityh a modern twist.
Wandering Trails – Melodic and poetic, with singing slide guitar and a deep organ track, this song melds a blues base with classic rock sounds
Pushing The Limits – Pedal to the floor, straight ahead rocker ala Chuck Berry & Johnny Winter. Revved up guitar and vintage background vocals
Misunderstood The Devil – A southern swamp feel based on a metal body slide guitar groove. References to Robert Johnson and his experiences “at the Crossroads”, this song includes backwards guitar and vocals with hand percussion.
Emergency – A psychedelic one chord blues groove. This song is about the state of things in Detroit (and many other major cities), featuring wah-wah guitars and electrified flute.
