Singing while playing electric bass Recording Artist and performer Gwenyth Hayes is an ever-evolving diverse professional musician never bound by genre. From singing sultry jazz ballads, to creating neo-soul arrangements, to laying down a funk bassline or playing down and dirty blues, Gwenyth “Wendy” Hayes has done it all.
Over the past year her ensembles have performed at some of Southeastern Michigan’s most popular festivals, clubs, venues including Chene Park, Arts, Beats, and Eats, Ann Arbor Summerfest, Ann Arbor Art Fair… Recently she played the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Charles H. Wright Museum with the Black Women Rock featuring jessica Care moore, a recording artist featured on the cover of January 2013 Metro Times and Dionne Ferris. In 2012 she also performed with Detroit’s renowned all-female jazz ensemble Straight Ahead and with former George Clinton P-Funk Drummer and Detroit Music Award winner Gabe Gonzalez’ Enemy Squad.
Throughout her career Gwenyth Hayes has been featured in exclusive articles in Buddy Guy’s Legend’s Magazine and GroundCover News and mentioned in Big City Rhythm and Blues Magazine with the quote "Wendy" stepped up to the mic with jazzy neo-soul covers of "Fever" and "All Along the Watchtower" that stopped us in our tracks." She has participated in Bootsy Collin’s Bootsy Girls Competition and has been a featured artist multiple times UDetroit shows, and radio interviews.
While in Chicago, Gwenyth performed regular a historical world famous clubs including Buddy Guy’s Legends and Chicago Music Award winning club Kingston Mines with international recording artist such as Quintus McCormick, Maurice John Vaughn, Byther Smith, Toronzo Cannon on historic labels Delmark and Alligator. She has also toured with the son of Jazz guitar legend Larry Coryell’s son Murali Coryell as they opened for B.B. King and played behind Grammy Award winning blues legend Buddy Guy.
Specialties:Now as a bassist AND vocalist Gwenyth Hayes has struck out on her own as a solo artist. Her most recent project Liquid Hayes can be described as a smooth Neo-Soul, Jazzy, Sultry Blues Fusion as it was conceived to fluidly crossover genres and appeal to diverse audiences. Based around the Gwenyth’s sultry voice, groove oriented basslines and arrangements Liquid Hayes reinevents time-worn and traditional soul, jazz, and blues covers with a new smooth funky contemporary feel
