Musicpage FAQ

About

  • What is Musicpage?

    A. Musicpage is an online community built specifically for the people who work in the music business, not for fans. Our goal was to make it easy for Artist and Music Pros to find and connect with each other. Our unique community architecture makes it easy to find profiles by location, category, experience or any number of other characteristics. For more information, check out our YouTube video: http://youtu.be/SQe4GMADo1s

  • When did Musicpage get started?

    A. Musicpage was conceived by David Codr in 2006 when he combined his music industry knowledge and experience with the tens of thousands of music industry contacts collected by his publication, the Music Phone Book. After a lengthy development process, Musicpage went online June 29, 2011.

  • What is the 'Market' Page?

    A. Market pages are Musicpage's version of a "home" page for each state. It is where you can find all of our Bands, Businesses, and Music Pros listed. When you are looking for music industry contacts by location, the Market Page for that state or territory should be your first step. Each State’s contacts are broken down by category. https://www.musicpage.com/markets.

  • What is the 'Music Ops Board'?

    A. This is basically a jobs board for Artists and Bands. Our Music Pros post here when they are looking for new music to use or artists to work with. We have helped hundreds of artists get booked into paying gigs at music festivals, licensing their music for Movies and TV Shows, submit demos to record labels, manager, producers and booking agents. This is a great way to get your Band or music in front of Music Pros who are actually looking for new music or bands. Applying to Music Ops requires our Membership.

  • Why did an Artist Relations Rep call me?

    A. There are many music websites out there. We are one of the only ones that are industry-based rather than fan-based. So people who view your profile are business professionals in the music industry. Therefore, we call to make sure each Artist / Band who set up a page with us are well represented and their profile is complete and update. Essentially, we make sure you look good to our Music Pros.

Our Artist Relations Reps’ job is to find out what your goal is as an Artist or Band. From there, they can help you get connected to who you are looking for. They are also there for you if you have any questions / concerns / comments, etc. Please feel free to call any of our Reps for an reason at 402.932.1456 Monday – Friday from 11am – 7pm Central Time.

  • What is the 'Verified Artist' badge? How do I get one?

    A. A ‘Verified Artist’ badge is a badge that will appear at the top right corner of your Band / Solo Performer page once you have been approved by an Artist Relations Rep. This badge lets Music Pros know you are a serious, professional musician ready to be worked with, and it indicates when your profile was updated.

You can get this badge by meeting the following requirement:
    * Must be a complete / fully updated profile
    * Must include one good-quality photo
    * Your profile must include at least 4 songs
    * All members must be linked to the Band / Solo performer page (under the “Contacts” section)
    * Following sections complete and updated: ”Genres,” ”Sounds Like,” and ”Details”
    * Full biography (under “The Story Of”)

  • Do you have any testimonials or success stories for Musicians applying to Music Ops??

    A. Yes. You can check out our Success Stories section by scrolling down on our homepage. We feature a photo, link, and quote from the Artists / Band when they have landed a gig via Musicpage.

However, the way Musicpage works is when you submit to a Music Op your application goes directly to the Music Pro that posted it. If the Music Pro wants to work with you or use your music, they will contact you directly. Therefore, sometimes we do not know who gets chosen unless the Music Pro or the Artist / Band tells us directly.

  • Where is your Creative Commons Attribution page?

    A. Our attribution page for asset items that require attribution--Creative Commons licenses and others-- is located on our credits page

Advertising

  • Why are there so few ads?

    A. While we need to make money like anyone else, we feel there is a better way to do it. We do have banner ads, but decided against adding them to any profile or Market pages so that you can focus on the content that brought you to Musicpage in the first place. Because of our architecture, not only will you see fewer ads – but when you do see them, they’re programmed to be about something you are interested in.

Each banner ad has been designed to uniquely show to potential customers. If you are interested in advertising your Business or your Band, give us a call at 402.932.1456.

  • Can I advertise a product/service on Musicpage? How do I?

    A. If you are advertising a product or service that is specific to the music industry - yes. However, if anyone can buy and use your products (ie it’s not specific to the music industry) - no. There are a lot of places to advertise. Because we limit advertising, we are pretty selective as to who we allow to purchase ads. Click the Advertising link at the bottom of any page or give us a call at 402.932.1456.

  • Can I advertise my Band / Solo Performer page on Musicpage?

    A. Yes, we have an Artist Media Kit that we offer musicians who are ready to take promotion to the next level. How it works is pretty simple:

    1) You pick one of the four options from the PDF, then tell us the type of Music Pro (A&R, Music Supervisor, Promoter, Talent Buyer, Music Conference, etc.) or market (specific States) you want to be promoted in.

    2) You design a banner ad and send it to us (190 x 600)

    3) We start showing your ad to the Music Pros you want to work with. The ad runs until you use up all your impressions.

It’s the best way to reach Music Pros in a specific location or category and since we only display one ad on a page at a time, your ad will really stand out. It’s a great way to build up name recognition and promote your music to the people you want to work with

Groups / Band Profiles

  • Is there a charge to create a Group page (either a Band / Solo Performer or Business)?

    A. No. It’s free to create a group. However, you must have an Individual Profile first.

  • How do I create a group?

    A. First, click the ‘Dashboard’ tab -> then click "create a new band page" or "create a new solo artist page" or "create a new business page" -> follow the steps.

  • Why can’t I join a group that I like?

    A. Unlike social networking sites where you can join a group because you like them, Musicpage Group Members are restricted to employees or official members of the group. The administrating members of any group are in complete control of the users added as members of the group.

  • I am a member of the group, how do I join?

    A. You can’t "join" a group, you must be invited. You can message an existing member of a group to request you be added as a member, but remember group members are official members of the organization, not just fans or people who "like" it.

See ‘How do you get each band member linked?’ in FAQ

  • How do you get each band member linked?

    A. They DO NOT ALREADY have a Musicpage Individual Profile:

  • Why isn’t there a category for my Business type?

  • How do I get my Band / Solo Performer or Business page’s photo in the Market Page portal?

    A. Group profiles with at least one uploaded photo and full profile information (address, phone, about us, etc.) rotate in the portal for the Market Page they are based in. If your group does not have a photo uploaded, or is missing profile information (address, phone, about us, etc.), you will need to add that data to your profile in order for it to rotate in the portal.

Songs

  • How many songs can I upload to my Artist / Band profile?

    A. The number of songs you can upload to each Artist / Band page depends on which Membership you have.

  • What type of files can I upload?

    A. Songs must either be in .mp3 or .mp4 format. Songs must be no larger than 15 MB.

  • My song(s) won’t play?

    A. If you uploaded your song(s) and they won’t play, check the following:

    1) Is your song in an .mp3 or .mp4 format? It shouldn’t allow you to upload if they are not, but computers make mistakes too.

    2) Are there funky characters in the file name? Only letters and numbers should be in the file name.

    3) Contact us. We can help.

  • What if I want to apply to a Music Op but it is not one of the (8, 16, or 24) songs I have uploaded?

    A. Depending on which Membership you have, you can either upload 8, 16, or 24 songs.

However, if you delete a song off your profile, it is still in our system for 45 days.

Therefore, if there is a song you have uploaded and applied to a Music Op with, the Music Pro has 45 days to listen and review after you have deleted it from your profile. Generally, Music Pros listen to songs and view profiles soon after the Music Op expires; so if a Music Op expires more than 45 days away, I would wait to delete the song.

  • How do I add music?

    A. You can add, edit, or delete your music by going to your ‘Dashboard’ tab -> then click ‘Profiles’ tab. From there, look for the page you want to make the song changes to. Press “Upload Music” for that profile.

Profile

  • Do you sell or share my information with other companies?

    A. Never, ever, EVER. We hate it when companies do that. We take proctecting our member's data seriously and have even added safeguards to Musicpage to prevent data extraction. The ONLY time we will send your information to another company is if you reqest that we do so.

  • Why do I have to have a profile?

    A. You don’t. In fact, almost a third of the profiles on Musicpage are available to anyone, even without a profile on Musicpage. But the more sensitive categories, contact information and individual profiles will not be available to people without a Musicpage profile. A profile will also allow you to use the system features like being able to message users, save online notes, save profiles to favorites and asking users to unlock their hidden data.

  • What are Call Preferences?

    A. Call preferences are just that; the days and times that you prefer someone give you a call.

  • What are VIP's?

    A. VIP's are users that you have added to your VIP list. These are the only users that can see the profile information that you have locked.

  • How do I block a member from messaging me?

    A. When viewing the user's profile (while you are signed in), press the "Block" button.

  • Why do I have to enter a phone or cell phone number?

    A. Musicpage is built to help music industry contacts find and connect with each other and a lot of that is done over the phone. If you are selective as to who can call you, simply lock your phone or cell phone number so that only users you approve have access to your numbers.

  • Why is some profile data locked?

    A. Because Musicpage profiles contain phone numbers and other information some users may not want displayed, we offer all users the ability to lock any data they want. Locked data is only visible to users that are on that member's VIP list.

  • Why cant I upload music to my profile?

    A. Musicpage only allows artists post their own recordings to their Band / Solo Performer profile.

  • Im a solo performer, why do I have to create a Band / Solo Performer Profile?

    A. Band / Solo Performer Profiles are the only profiles that include a music player and other relative information for Music Pros. Also, Band / Solo Performer Profiles include a number of perfomer related features like linking management, booking, publicity and tour manager contacts, a tour calendar, etc.

  • Can I have a profile as a fan?

    A. No. Musicpage is not a site for fans, unless you’re a fan that also works in the music industry. Musicpage Profiles are reserved for people who make their living in the business. Musicpage was designed to help the people who work "behind the curtin" connect with each other. If your a fan of a band, your not going to find Musicpage very interesting. We suggest you visit the artists website and sign up for their fanclub.

  • What is the Dashboard tab?

    A. The Dashboard tab is where you go for updates about your profile's activity. From the Dashboard you can send and receive messages, get updates on your Music Op applications, view / edit Membership, and access the Pre-Production song review form.

Music Ops Board

  • Who posts on the Music Ops Board?

    A. We have relationships with thousands of Music Industry Professionals who use us to find artists to work with and music to use.

These Music Pros like using Musicpage because we verify all profiles are complete with contact information.

  • How much does it cost to apply to a Music Op?

    A. In order to apply to an ad on the Music Ops Baord, you must either apply using a Credit or a Token (see below).

If it is a Music Licensing or Call for Artists type Music Op; submitting your application costs ONE Credit or Token. However, you will need to create either a Band / Solo Performer profile (free to do).

If it is a Performance or Contest type Music Op, submitting your applicaiton is totally FREE. A Band / Solo Performer profile may be requested for submission.

Once you are ready to apply, click on the desired Music Op and click the red "Apply For This Op Now" button. Drop down boxes may appear to select Band / Solo Performer profile, song, and genre. • What are Credits and Tokens?

    A. Credits and Tokens are used to apply to ads on the Music Ops Board. Music Ops only cost 1 Credit or Token (unless it's free!) You can see how many Credits and Tokens you have by visiting your Dashboard.

Credits come with the All Access (10 per month) or All Access Plus Membership (20 per month).

    A. You can receive feedback on your Music Op submissions by selecting the Feedback Add on option on the membership page. You must have an All Access or All Access Plus Membership to order feedback.

Note: "Performance” or Contest Music Ops do not receive feedback. Neither do songs that are added to the Musicpage Curation Library as they are deemed broadcast quality to be selected for Curation.
